Aeropress – preparation instructions

feature-image

The Aeropress is a compact way of making filter coffee invented by Alan Adler in 2005.  The Aeropress is lightweight, durable and requires no electricity, making it a favorite for travel and camping. With a brewing capacity of only 10 ounces, it is usually considered a single-serve "coffee maker". However, it is possible to make very strong coffee that can be diluted into multiple cups."

This recipe is the simplest one we use at Kavava, you don't need any extra equipment to make it, so it's a good way to get started. Give it a try and then you can get started with countless variations of coffee preparation using Aeropress according to your own preferences.

And who knows, maybe you'll become the next Aeropress World Champion! ... Yes, there really is such a thing 🙂

Preparation instructions with Aeropress

rinse-filter

Step 1

Place the paper filter in a plastic sieve and rinse it well.

Rinsing gets rid of the paper aftertaste and also preheats the cup (don't forget to pour the rinse water out of the cup - and use it again)

Step 2

Fold the Aeropress and place it on top of the cup.

Step 3

Grind 14 g of coffee and put it in the Aeropress.

Freshly ground coffee is always best and for Aeropress should be similar in size to rough beach sand.

Step 4

Pour 220 ml of hot water into the Aeropress.

If you do not have a measuring cup, fill the Aeropress until it is almost full (just above the 4 mark).

The most suitable water temperature is approximately 92 °C. If you don't have a temperature-controlled kettle, let the water cool for a minute or two after boiling.

Step 5

Mix well and then attach the top piston of the Aeropress.

When you put the top on, you create a seal and stop any more water from draining into your cup.

push-water

Step 6

Wait two minutes and then press until you hear air hissing.

A small amount of pressure is required to push the water through the paper. You want this step to take approximately 30 seconds.
